Weddings are this weird thing.
They’re super fun and really stressful all at the same time. Everyone there is crying, while also being crazy happy. The guests arrive dressed in their best clothing, and before the nights out many of them are barefoot and twerking on the dance floor.
Awesome.
Kinda like Austin Texas.
I’ll admit, I never thought I’d see the day when I used the word awesome to describe any single strip of land in Texas.
Nothing against you Texas loving humans (Jen, I’m talking to you), but I have really disturbing memories from the summer of 2000 and my 6 week stint in Houston where I was viciously attacked by the evil prehistoric winged devils they call mosquitos round those parts.
But, from what I can tell after 3 and a half days in Austin, it’s not quite the same as that. And way less “Texas” than any place else I’ve ever visited in the longhorn state.
I am actually considering going back for a non-wedding related adventure. I want to go back to Tesoros Trading Company, this adorably funky shop I stumbled into when the downtown traffic made me flee the city center.
I want to take DudeDad so we can eat Mexican food until we can’t see our feet. Then we will rent Segways (do they rent those in Austin?) and chase food trucks around the city so we can gorge ourselves on BBQ and burgers and various desserts before we sit under the bridge and watch the bats.
Because for real, food in Austin is what’s up.
Yes, friends, that is a CREPES truck!
And this is Gueros Taco Bar, home to the best burrito I’ve put in my gullet since my last visit to the Golden State (the only other place I’ve been able to enjoy a half way decent burrito).
I saw the Hey Cupcake food truck while I was in town, but I was too full to get one (I know, who am I) and it seemed dramatically inappropriate to puke a little right there on the street corner in the middle of the day.
Believe it or not, Austin is about more than just the food. Live music in Austin=big deal.
After my short stay in the weird Austin (their words, not mine), I’ve decided I love musical hipsters. You know, not enough to be one or even hang out with them during the week. But, on the weekends, I’d kick back with a grungy guitarist and his dirty Toms while he serenaded me with his vocal cords for sure. And, since they can be found in every corner restaurant/bar/open area big enough for a man, you don’t even have to look far.
So much awesome to enjoy.
Now, back to the wedding. It was awesome as well mostly because I didn’t have to plan it, pay for it, or walk around with one of those little serving tray thingys during it thanks to BFF’s hard work and gorgeous face. Huffington Post Weddings thought so too since the featured one of the wedding photos I snapped this week!
I was so happy to be with her on her special day even if I did feel all linebacker-ish in my strapless dress (note to self: never buy again).
This week, in honor of Thanksgiving, we are featuring another blogger who is thankful for a lifelong friendship.
Link up your posts and the pop over to my co-host, Seven Clown Circus, and see what she has going on this week.
Happy Thanksgiving!
